Remote commentary into vMix, without a commentary box

Your commentators open the Active Intercom app, tap ON AIR and arrive in vMix as separate audio inputs — with the program picture in front of them, program return in their ears and the director one button away.

Why not vMix Call?

vMix Call is a video call that also carries audio, and it works. But the guest gets no ON AIR / MUTE or talkback controls of their own, each caller takes one of your vMix edition's limited call slots, and every return feed has to be built inside vMix. A commentator needs a console, not a video call.

How it works

  1. Install the free receiver on the vMix PC (Windows, five minutes, uses VB-CABLE). Choose an output and press Start.
  2. In vMix add an Audio Input for each commentator slot (slot 1, 2, 3…).
  3. Give your commentators a login. They open the Commentary panel, pick the quality and press ON AIR.
  4. Their voice lands on their own vMix input — mix, duck and route it like any other mic.

What the commentator gets

FAQ

How many commentators can I put into vMix?

Each commentator is a slot and a separate vMix audio input. The Team plan includes 4 commentator slots; Crew includes 1.

What audio quality do commentators send?

Opus from 64 to 320 kbps, mono or stereo, chosen on the console.

Does it add latency?

Typically 150–300 ms into vMix over a normal internet line. If you produce in Relaya cloud production, the voice is aligned to the picture automatically.

Do I need a server?

No. You run the free receiver on the vMix PC; everything else is hosted.
